Mr. Rohit J. Patel

Mr. Rohit J.Patel joined the Board the of Rohit Pulp & Paper Mils Ltd. as a Director in 1960, after graduating in Commerce from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics Mumbai. He underwent practical training in Japan in 1961 in a straw based pulp mill and a paper mill producing specialty papers. He also underwent a special Management Development Programme conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

On return from Japan, Mr. Patel embarked on a pioneering venture, first of its kind in the country, of manufacturing quality writing and printing papers from rice straw as raw material. The production commenced in the year 1962, and the company manufactures a wide range of papers and paper boards like writing / printing papers, coated paper and carton board.

Amongst the paper mills in India, the Company has one of the most sophisticated in –house Research & Development Centre. Established in 1979, the R & D centre has the recognition of The Company’s Continuous and concerted efforts in conservation of energy have been recognized by various Research Foundations and by the Government of India, by way of awards.

Besides paper, Mr. Patel is also closely associated with other industrial companies of the group, such as packaging, Polypropylene Film and pesticides. The total turnover of the group is over Rs.400 crores.

As a highly successful entrepreneur in the paper industry ,Mr. Patel has widely travelled abroad to study the latest technological development in the paper industry . In 1979, he was nominated as a delegate by the Government of India to visit the U.S.S.R.

Mr.Patel has been taking a keen interest in the trade and industrial activities in general, and paper industry in particular .He was the President of Indian Merchants’Chamber , an apex body of trade , Commerce and industry in western India , for the year 1989. He was member of the Executive Committee of Indian Pulp & Paper Technical Association and a member of the Development Council for of Industry, Government of India.

Recongnizing his wide experience in trade and industry, he is appointed as a member of the Managing Committees of Apex bodies of the Country, the Associated Chambers of Commerce &Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

In addition to business commitments, Mr. Patel is also involved in social activities. He is a Trustee on the Board of V.T Desai Charity Trust and on the Board of Governors of Muljibhai Patel Societyfor Research in Nephro –Urology, both attached to the Kidney Hospital at Nadiad,Gujarat, the Only hospital of its kind in the country for treating exclusively all types of kidney ailments , including kidney transplant.

Mr. Patel is an active Rotarian.
